About this School Project (2-B Clementine Hunter inspired Flowers)
Clementine Hunter was born between late 1886 and 1887. She is one of Louisiana’s most famous artists and one of America’s great Folk Artists. Hunter was the first African-American woman artist to have a solo art exhibition. We looked at many of her paintings especially concentrating on her paintings of zinnias. We loved how Clementine Hunter used emphasis to make the zinnias the focal point of her paintings by making them fill up the entire canvas. We also liked how the zinnias were painted bright bold colors with textured petals. Students used tempra paint and chalk pastels to make their own flower paintings.
