About this School Project (St. Peter's Basilica(s) and Sistine Chapel Paintings-LINE/PATTERN REPETITION-by the 1st Grade)
We have been studying about the great Basilicas in Rome and our current artist of interest is, of course, Michelangelo! The students in First Grade have been making these fancy churches using REPETITION of LINES and SHAPES. They also have been using ONLY one color, which we learned is called MONOCHROMATIC, and it is a Color Harmony. That means it looks VERY NICE in a Composition! The follow-up lesson was "Painting on the Ceiling" like Michelangelo! We used the bottoms of our desks and used very uncomfortable painting positions on the floor --on our backs and sides to get the painting done! Using water paints for the first time this year, we had quite the fun time. We cannot imagine what Michelangelo went through, painting in these uncomfortable positions for 5-10 years on the REAL Sistine Chapel!
