About this School Project (2S Sculptures, Textures, Presenting, Oh My!)
The second grade viewed sculptures from various cultures, discussed the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional form, then created three dimensional sculptures with a focus on texture while using a variety of different techniques. They had so much fun! They then painted their sculptures focusing on their craftsmanship (new skills included a focus on using a brush wet with paint; using the wet tip of the brush; analyzing their work for completion. The third class they reflected on how to best display their work for presentation. What colors in the background would work well? What would be interesting ways to cut their paper in order to make a great display? They found this reflection an interesting way to think about their work. Last, I switched out the background color for many of the pieces, to discuss, once again, how the color choices that artists use can really change how a piece of art is seen.
