About this School Project (Hippos Can’t Swim)
Students in Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 learned all about Hippopotamuses. They watched a science video about how hippos really can't swim but push themselves along the riverbed and how they will stand in the water with their eyes, ears, and nose above the water so they can see, hear and breathe. After the video students did a directed drawing of a hippopotamus using basic geometric shapes. They were guided to draw a riverbed along with a water line that was drawn right under the hippo's nose. They traced their drawing with a sharpie pen, added color with crayon, and then painted the water in with blue paint to give the look of the hippo standing under the water.
