About this School Project (4 Kirigami)
INTRO:
During this lesson, students learned about the Japanese art form of Kirigami (meaning cut paper). Unlike Origami which incorporates only paper folding, Kirigami combines both folding and cutting techniques to create intricate designs.
PROJECT:
Students then learned how to create a Kirigami fold out of square paper (we used colored copy paper), draw designs on the paper and then cut out and assemble their pieces. Their goal was to create intricate Kirigami pieces so that when their designs were layered they could see through each one to create a kaleidoscope effect. Their designs consist of a white background a colored frame and then 4 Kirigami layers that become smaller toward the top of the piece.
