About this School Project (Clay Mugs)
5th graders used a slab construction process to create beautiful and functional mugs. A slab is a rolled out flattened piece of clay. They used the slabs to create cylinders and then some chose to add handles. Students used a sgraffito method for their designs. They painted the mug with black underglaze and incised or carved away their unique designs. Lastly, students applied clear glaze to create the shining glass coating.
