About this School Project (1 - Space Spheres)
INTRO: Students learned the difference between a circle and a sphere; that one is two-dimensional and the other is three-dimensional. They learned that artists create the illusion of form by shading or by making one side of an object light and the other gradually darker. This happens because a light source is "hitting" the object. In space, the light source is the sun.
PROJECT: After watching a demonstration where they learned chalk pastel techniques, students drew a circle using the side of their chalk. They then drew white and black lines along its edges and then blended their highlights and lowlights with their fingers in a circular motion to create spheres. They drew at least 3 spheres and then added additional space details to complete their picture.
