Did you write your name backwards? Was this for a block print?

Rogan, this is a nice seascape. I like the path through the sand. Maybe you can take a beach trip this summer.

I see the sun, just visible behind the hills or mountains. I think you color selections give your picture depth.

I see your school name. Is this a self portrait?

You took a lot of time with your detail. It gives your picture depth and texture.

This is a very nice abstract.

Rogan, I haven’t commented in a while, but I really like your landscapes. Your fence post looks very real. I like to paint scenes with water. Maybe we can paint at the same time.

I see “Rogan” emerging from the print making. Nice comparison of shapes in your print.

Rogan, I really like the contrast between the dark & the light!

Rogan, your portrait of the balloon art dog is very nice. Your shading makes it come alive.

Rogan, this is one of my favorite pieces of your art. I like the colors you chose and your placement. I am glad you emphasized the heart by placing it in the middle. It makes me happy, Rogan, because it reminds me of your kind and loving heart! Love, Gran

Rogan, What a great picture of an insect! Is it a helpful insect or a harmful one? Love, Gran

Rogan, I think the red background makes your self portrait stand out. It contrasts nicely with the yellow which looks like your shirt. Love, Gran

Rogan, Your Red Monster is scariest to me because it has human arms and legs and giant eyes that can see everything! You did a very nice job with your stitching. Did you have a pattern or did you make your own pattern? Love, Gran

Rogan, I like your color addition to your Portrait. By adding the different colors, around your face, you made your portrait stand out from the flat paper. It looks like you have on a blue shirt and are standing in front of a red background with yellow overhead. I see 2 values in the yellow with a nice purple shape to your left. The lines approaching your head from the top of the paper add to the depth and make you stand out. Love, Gran

Rogan, your Partner Portrait is one of my favorites. I like your details and I like the colors you have used. I think we should frame this one. Love, Gran

Rogan, somehow I missed your first portrait until now. Although I can see you worked very hard on this assignment, when I compare this drawing to the one you did later, I think the second one has a much better head shape. Thanks for always working hard on your assignments. Love, Gran

Rogan, I am excited to see you drawing people. You’ve always been willing to depict people in your drawings. In fact, I have 2 framed “people” drawings in my office that you drew in pre-school. One is a portrait of Pop, you and me and the other is of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. You drew it after dressing up in the presidential costumes.

Rogan, I think your plant coming up from the soil is a really clever drawing. I like it because it reminds me of springtime. Love, Gran

Rogan, I am happy to see your drawing of food art. Knowing you, I’m guessing you drew tacos. A plate of tacos would make a colorful painting. Love, Gran

Rogan, this is one of my favorite projects. I am imagining a house on a hill with a field in front of the hill. The grass looks like a frost bit it. The house takes my eye to the back of the painting. Love, Gran

Rogan, your drawing reminds me of a cactus I rescued for your great grandmother. “Bad Plant” looks almost dead just like hers. She had neglected watering it, and it need more soil added to the pot for the rest it’s to get enough nourishment. But it is very green, has lots of leaves and it will bloom soon! Come to see it! Love, Gran

Rogan, I really like your journal cover. I write all kinds of information in my journal and it helps me to remember. Sometimes, I write about how I am feeling, too. I think your cover suggests that your journal could have all kinds of things in it that are important to you. Love, Gran

Rogan, this is an interesting picture. Could you explain the story it tells, please?

Rogan, this is such a pretty placement of colors and shapes. I like the way they overlap and I like the bolder blue in different shapes in the center.

Rogan, I like your abstract of “Bob, the Dog.” Your color placement provides a nice shape. Do you remember when we went to see Picasso paintings at the Frist in the thunderstorm?

Rogan, what a great way to celebrate the UT Big Orange football season for 2022! This is a very creative sculpture.

Rogan, this is one of my favorites of your art projects. I can see you worked really hard on it. I like that some of your lines are thicker than others and that the lines go in different directions. I also like the colors you chose. This abstract drawing allows me to imagine different things when I look at it. I hope you had fun creating this drawing, Love, Gran

Rogan, I am glad you are learning about how light affects what you see. I like the way you only showed a couple of letters of “cola.” I like to draw and shade with pencils, too.

What cheery colors you chose! They make your cover stand out!

Rogan, I really enjoy abstract art, so this piece is one of my favorites in your portfolio at Freedom Intermediate. I have studied Jason Pollock in my painting classes. I hope you will create some more abstract paintings even though your time in art at school is ending. Let me know when you if need some supplies for your continued painting practice at home.

Rogan, I am interpreting your Untitled painting as a beach with a blue ocean and sky, some sea grass, a white beach & your name spelled out in beach towel colors. I really like your use of color here. I had fun with you at the beach. I think we should go again.

Rogan, I think you did an amazing job of your self portrait. I see that you used a very dark shade for the eyes, the shadows on your hair and under your nose and mouth. Then I see lighter hair, and then I see some lighter shadows on the head and face. I like that you used a white with shadows for your cheeks because in a photo, you would see highlights there. Thank you for sharing your art!

Rogan, your heart painting is as beautiful as how your heart holds and shows love. I like the contrast of lines to colors. Thanks for sharing! Gran
