Love the blue-raspberry lipcolor, the long eyelashes, and the little "hi" wave. This Katie Art makes me wonder: Did this little girl eat a blue-raspberry popsicle, or is she experimenting with "mood" lipstick? -- Votre Tante, Maryel

Good job Katie. I didn't know that you had blue lipstick or were you just thinking outside of the box? -- Momma

What a beautiful, proud pastel Easter Egg! I like the 3-D effect with the straw. If only the little chick within the egg could see what a pretty shell you painted for it. -- Votre Tante, Maryel

Great balance of colors and shapes, Katie. This cluster of four-leaf clovers reminds me how lucky I am...to have Katie, l'artiste, as my niece. She is very bright, fun, adventurous, high-spirited, very giving, and sweet. Katie is the poster girl for joie de vivre! -- Votre Tante, Maryel

I really like this owl art. I especially like your technique of outlining the owl in azure blue, which is a great color selection for the sky. The yellow around the owl's eyes, the yellow wings, and the splash of yellow beneath the branch make the picture optically "pop." Those cottontail-puff clouds add dimension to the sky. You have a natural "eye" for balance of colors and shapes, and a very creative imagination. Mmm...I wonder why this owl's eyes are so big and her wings are spread. Maybe she's an owlet that's very happy to see Momma Owl returning to the nest with food; or, maybe this owlet is getting ready to fly for the first time. -- Votre Tante, Maryel

Katie, you're a very good artist, just like Grandpa... It's pretty, Katie. I like the colors: the sky blue. It's really pretty, Katie. Keep it up! -- Grandma Bertha

Turtle talk... I really like the simplicity of this Art and the complemetary-color selections: the solid dark-green turtle and the pastel seafoam grass; the dark red turtle and the striated, pastel dusky-rose sky. Even though the turtles' colours are "complementary," these turtles look very happy to see each other: big smiles, tails up. If only homosapiens could exercise such easy-going acceptance of each other's differences... Katie's Art makes me wonder: Did these turtle friends arrange this tete-a-tete; or, did these two turtles almost bump into each other while just passing through, greeting each other for the first time ever... After all, there are no strangers--only friends who have not yet met. Once again...great job, Katie Van Gogh! -- Votre Tante, Maryel

I think it's nice work for your age, little girl. Grandma likes it! You take after your grandpa. I like the bunny, especially. -- Grandma Bertha
- on February 3, 2012
I am impressed with this Katie Art...the shading...the color choices...the pastel sky. The dark outlining of the hare is very Katie Van Gogh. I like the detail on his paws, ears, and face, too. This big ol' brown bunny is laughing so hard, his eyes are tightly closed and he's toppled over backwards onto his big, poofy powder-puff tail. This lends new meaning to "a soft place to fall!" This very talented watercolor art inspires me to wonder: "What's so funny, Bunny?" -- Votre tante, Maryel

Katie, you are so clever. I love your Christmas Tree and is that snow under it. -- carol
- on December 14, 2011
I like the abstract concept of your Christmas Tree, as well as the skewed yet harmonious displacement of the tiers of branches, the trunk, and the marigold Hilda Star. The cottonball snow entices me to reach out and touch it--a nice 3-D effect. The non-traditional ornaments of flowers is visually refreshing. When I see this art, I think "contemporary Christmas card." -- Aunty Maryel
