Family is front in center in our life; so close to our eyes we don't ever really see it except in rare glimpses. This piece is one of those flashes of clarity. Here Lillian moves herself, her view, outside of her body and looks on from a distant vantage and what does she see? She sees her sister, her mother, and the hot sun father above. Interestingly she chooses to render her mother the same size as herself, suggesting a precocious knowledge that the adults in her life have only learned to separate themselves from her through so many layers of subterfuge and pretense. Scaling them down and up (as with her father) all that is stripped away. What remains? The red rocks of the desert, the companionship of family without hierarchy, and indeed, most of all, love.

I am sending this work on to my friends at the Museum of Modern Art, here in New York City. They will want to be aware of your emerging talent. They will surely display this in your retrospective 2094 show. The smiling character is magnificent, and I haven't seen such dynamic and balanced composition since Jean Miró. With Love, Graham
