Luke, when I look at what your classmates produced for this project, I see that most are 2-dimensional. I like that you are working on adding depth and perspective. When I took some art history courses in college, I remember that one of the key developments was that somewhere around the Renaissance the artist made a quantum leap in terms of realism when they learned how to incorporate that third dimension. Well done.

Luke, I have so many questions on this project. First of all, when we get the mail with your project in it, we also get to see the work of your fellow students on the same project. It is fun to see how different and creative they are. On this one, there were two other projects (Evan and Alana) that were identical to yours. My conclusion is that either you did this project with partners or there might have been an error in the upload process. Regardless, I loved the multi-functional aspect of your room. It is hard to see all the detail, but it looks like you can play Fortnite, sleep, and go to the barhroom - all in one space. I also like the three tones of wallpaper. Well done.

Luke, I will need to see this one in person. From the photograph, it looks like your goblet has a glowing pearl in it. I would be interested to hear what effect you were trying to create and how you did it. It is quite intriguing, which is always a good thing to say about a work of art. Well done. Pops

Luke, this is my favorite piece of Lukeart ever. I like it not only because I like the blue/violet color scheme, but the technique is excellent. For example, the wide swath of violet coming from the wide paint brush just feels wet. The shadowing from all the brushes is consistent and believable. And the way the different brushes are layered on top of each other makes for a fun composition. If your mom and dad have not already put it on the mantel, I would love to hang it at our house.

Luke, I like art projects where I am not 100% sure what I am looking at. Clearly this is a very detailed drawing of an eye, but is a human eye (I am pretty sure not), or a fish, or maybe a bird. The detail around the eye could be scales or they could be feathers. Based on the red coloring I am going with bird.

Luke, I hope this is not a self portrait! I do have an idea for a follow-up project. Since your skull reminds me of a light bulb, why not use a real light bulb to create a 3-D version. Just be careful not to break it.

Luke, the project description indicates this is in the style of Wayne Thiebaud. I was not familiar with him, so I googled him and learned that he lived to be 101 and died on Christmas day. That alone is enough to make him interesting. (If I live to 101, you will be 44 - imagine that.) One of his earliest works is a simple black and white pie with a slice taken out. Your piece is very consistent with that style, except you go beyond that with a four tiered cake, and lots of other desserts in the background. The only problem I have with black and white is that I cannot tell what flavor of cake you have drawn. I am going to end my comments here because for some reason I am getting hungry. Well done.

Luke, I am thrilled to finally see your artwork via Artsonia. I am going to comment on two pieces since they came together. First, the Name in Graffiti project. At first glance I thought it said LOVE, but upon closer examination I saw the O was a U and the V was a K. I always like art that can be seen more than one way. You nailed the style of the lettering - it looks just like graffiti you might see on a subway train. I also love the contrasting styles where the name is black and white and the background is a more colorful set of pastels that do not distract from the name in the foreground. The second piece is the skull/symmetry project. This time my first impression was negative since i do not like skulls, but then I saw that it was the actual assignment. I can tell that skull exhibits perfect symmetry (the other part of the assignment,) even though it is obscured by the blue and yellow component of the piece. I love that you were able to use a technique that allows a burst of color that does not obscure the underlying drawing. The way the colors are sort of swiped to the right gives a blurry effect that is quite pleasing. Well done. Pops
