I like this one, Claire. You really captured the look of a Matisse painting. It almost makes sense but not quite. I keep thinking I see a face on the right. Is it a face (with a big yellow grin) or am I imagining things? Nice use of colour and a variety of shapes and lines. I really like the dotted lines. The yellow makes them stand out. Maybe they are carrying a secret message in morse code. Hogs and Curses. Love, Gramma.

Wow! We really like your Matisse Collage, Claire! The blue and black frame really makes the colors pop. Your colorful paper cutouts make it look three dimensional and layered, Good job, Claire! We’re wondering which one you’ll choose for the tile. Lots of time for more creations! Love, Grammy & PopPop

We agree with Ian, your Sugar Skull is neat! We cheated and googled that a sugar skull is a decorative, edible skull made of sugar paste used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead. They were originally created as gifts to be eaten by children. We love the decorative touches of glitter on the frame. We would definitely eat your creation, but it is too pretty to eat! Good work, Claire! Love, Grammy & PopPo

Neato. It's... Staring... Into... My SOUL...! Why is it called a sugar skull?
- Ian on January 2, 2025
We LOVE your creative cup of hot chocolate, Claire! The cup design is great, and the pink squares complement the squares on the tablecloth/placemat. Of course, the candy cane stirrer and mini marshmallows are great touches. Good work, Claire! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Wow, this is a really awesome flag! I was convinced it was 3D because the shadows are so good, until I read the description. I even like the slightly off-white color and the crack in the blue -- makes it look like a worn flag.
- Jeff (Father) on October 30, 2024
Wow, Claire! PopPop said he would buy this one! You did a GREAT job! It really looks 3D. What a good project for Veterans Day. Maybe I’ll get him a mug, and you can still pick your favorite at the end of the year for your tile. Love, Grammy & PopPop

Beautiful!

Wow, Claire! What a beautiful watercolor sunset! Reminds us of the ones we get in FL, we’ll see if this ends up a finalist for your Grade 3 tile! Nice work! Keep creating! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Hi Claire. The cherry blossoms are super. A couple look so real I feel like I could reach out and pick them. Your pagoda makes me think of a wedding cake. Delicate and lovely. Love, Gramma.
- Gramma on May 31, 2023
Ooooh, I like those flowers! We have lots of cherry trees here in Victoria. They're one of the first things to bloom and colour the whole city pink. I also like how the lines of the pagoda have been softened with the watercolor effect. The roof looks especially good. Looks like lots of hard work went into this. Bravo.
- Ian on May 24, 2023
Claire, your cherry blossom pagoda piece is terrific! Your background perfectly sets off your blossoms and the pagoda. Love all your details on the pagoda. The third tier is our favorite. Placing the branches at the top was a good artistic choice. Great work, Claire! It will be time to decide on your tile soon! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Claire, We love your cute clay kitty cat! We’re not surprised that you chose a cat, but we’re amazed how cute you made her look, with her pink nose and shiny cat eyes and whiskers. Next month, you’ll have to choose one of your first grade pieces for the tile. We can’t wait to find out which one you choose! Great job, Claire! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Hi Claire. This really catches your attention. So bold and bright, like a neon sign. All the different patterns give it a feeling of excitement. I've always wanted to try making a print. Styrofoam is so easy to cut. Maybe Vaughn and I could try one. With dinosaurs, of course. I like the heart with the swirly lines that look like a maze. And I like the diamond pattern on the back of the e. Makes it look like a snake. You always have such interesting details in your art work, Claire. Great work. oLove, Gramma P.S. I didn't know what a brayer was, so now I have a new word. Thanks.

Hi Claire. This little guy has a lot of personality! I see the little lines that mean he is shaking or wobbling...but I wasn't sure if he was shaking because he was cold, or wobbling because his iceberg is so small. My friend from Nova Scotia, which is right on the Atlantic Ocean...he says they called them bergie-bits. When he was a kid, he and his friends would cross the bay by jumping from one bergie-bit to another. Sounds like fun, but rather dangerous. I really like the way you did the sky, with the swirling wind and snowflakes. Because the colours are pale, you don't notice it at first. But once I looked closely I thought it looked exactly like a dull, windy, snowy day. Well done. Love, Gramma

We love your cute penguin, Claire! He doesn’t seem worried about being on the ice floe. Bet he’s a good swimmer! Love his hat and ear muffs and how you used the colorful yarn. You did a great job with this project! Keep up the good work! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Claire, we LOVE your watercolor falling snowflakes! My favorite flake is the rainbow one in the bottom right corner. Your shapes and colors are very artistic. Your artwork would make a great Christmas card! We’ll SEE you soon! Love, Grammy & PopPop ??

I like the chunky brush strokes, especially the trees. And the ground appears to be glossy which I find fascinating. Lovely work, Claire.
- Ian on November 3, 2022
Claire, we love your fall trees picture! We especially like how you did the sky filled with leaves and the shadows of the trees on the ground. We think we see the sun peeking behind the trees, maybe going down or coming up. Great work! We love your creations! Love, Grammy & PopPop ??

Love your stained glass window, Claire! Now I understand what you were talking about with the baby oil. I especially like the way you blended so many colors. Very artistic! You are such a creative and talented artist! Love, Grammy

Claire, we never heard of Jen Stark but like her art techniques. Your piece looks like a psychedelic upside-down rainbow with square clouds in the background. It is really colorful! Great job, Claire! We look forward to seeing more pieces from first grade! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Wow! This is simply beautiful, Claire. So vibrant. The colours look alive. I like the way the black and white pieces...not sure what they are...but they contrast so nicely with the rest of the colours. Well done!
- Gramma on October 12, 2022
That's a pretty one. I love colors!

Claire, We love your abstract flower piece! It is so colorful and looks like a lot of beautiful wildflowers. Hope your newly planted seeds grow and look like your amazing artwork! A great addition to your kindergarten portfolio. You are a wonderful artist, Claire! Love, Grammy & PopPop

Oh wow! This is my favourite so far! I need that on a mug or something.

Claire, I LOVE your cute, symmetrical owl! The chalk crayon details you added really make your owl look great! I know you’ve enjoyed being an owl this year with Mrs. M. Hope you have fun dressing up like an owl this week. I’m a true fan of your art, Claire! You have a fantastic imagination! Love, Grammy

It must have taken a lot of concentration and patience to cut out that triceratops. And look at all those hand-drawn windows! So much hard work went into this. Congratulations!
- Ian on April 27, 2022
This is delightful, Claire. I love the dinosaur's square toenails. Lots of details to make it interesting...flags, airplanes, the load of stuff on the back of the van. Your dinosaur looks very happy walking through the big city, but I'm wondering what he will find to eat. And I'm wondering what the big letters...ENS...stand for [ed: "Eanes" I think]. I like a picture that gives you things to think about. Great work. Love, Gramma.
- Gramma on April 20, 2022
Claire, I LOVE your pink Triceratops (?)! Great job with your skyscrapers and the road. I wouldn’t mind if your dinosaur came back. It’s a cutie! You’re SO creative! Can’t wait to see more of your art! Love, Grammy

I too like the texture. Mmmmm, I'm hungry for noodles now.
- Ian on March 2, 2022
We love your Ramen Bowl Collage, Claire! We like how your chopsticks are holding the noodles up, and all of the yummy ingredients seem to be falling into the bowl. Was Daddy kidding about your shrimp being a candy cane? Your artistic arrangement is terrific! Great job, Claire! Love, Grammy & PopPop
- Marybeth on February 26, 2022
I love your noodles! That's such a neat idea. And the beautiful design you made on the bowl makes it feel like a fancy ramen restaurant. Is one of those toppings a candy cane?
- Dad on February 23, 2022
What a cozy looking bear! I could use a big warm scarf like that. It's been very cold lately. This morning Cocoa was licking the ice on a puddle instead of drinking it. I like the details that make your bear look realistic...the black spots on his snout where the whiskers are, and the glint of light in his eyes. A big cuddly bear all ready for hibernation. Well done, Claire. Much love. See you soon for Christmas.

I love the one diagonal line. It's perfect.

Hi Claire. Your Mondrian design looks just like the ones I remember from the 1960s. When I was in high school there were a lot of dresses with Mondrian prints on them. Always very simple dresses so that the design would be the most important part. I always liked them because they looked so crisp and clean. And yours does, too. You did a good job of balancing the colours. Amazing how beautiful an artwork can be using just black and white and the three primary colours. Well done. Gramma

Hi Claire. So wonderful to see your artwork up on Artsonia. Such a lot of interesting textures. It takes a lot of steps to create a masterpiece. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your art as the months go by. Lots of love, Gramma.
