The viewer has little choice but to be enthralled by this effective use of complimentary colors. The choice of pallette more than compensates for the fast-and-loose approach to the conventional principles of gestalt. As but one of many examples of Hogue's mastery of artistic subversion, the darker red hue chosen for the upper-center of the composition balances out the hazy sun-like image in the lower-left-hand-corner. While this mixture evokes a sense of chaos upon first glance, a closer study will reveal a series of Baryshnikov-esque pivots and spins which portray of an intensive Texas summer heat that will soon give way to crispier late October dawns and dusks.
