This snowman is so cute he could be a Christmas card! And this is a very Daniel work of art--blue (his favorite color) for the clothes, and more than one shade of blue at that! Starry snowflakes falling. Daniel is our winter baby and he shows his fondness for that season here. The carrot nose--not too bright or glaring--is the perfect complementary color for this artwork and looks great at the middle of it, drawing your eye right into the art and that sly smile. ;)

I love this piece! The very intense and colorful sky over the patterned but bland-colored cityscape is really great! Daniel's use of color and texture really is growing and I admire how carefully he's done each section. And I like the rough diagonal that exists between the sky and the buildings--it really carries the eye into the art and up to those gorgeous colors.

Daniel's artwork continues to amaze me. I'm struck by the detail he has put into every section of this heart drawing. I love the colors and textures and how different they are from each other and how well they blend together. This piece reminds me of beautiful "crazy quilts" I've seen that showcase color, shape, and texture, especially different types of embroidery. The black background is always a winner for me. Great job, Daniel!

I can see already this year that Daniel is growing as an artist. This composition includes both line and blended colors, attention to small details and a good sense of where repetition will add something to the overall work. It features a large expanse of his favorite color, blue. But it also incorporates complementary colors and those close by on the color spectrum. He's adding perspective with his pathways at the bottom. Well done, Daniel!! I'm very proud of you!

I love this piece! He captures the essence of water lilies on a pond, but with his own creative introduction of color to the flowers. I’m so proud of him and what a wonderful year he has had in art class!

I love that Daniel enjoys Van Gogh's work so much. I can absolutely see the Starry Night painting in this work he did. I'm especially fond of this because I know how much Daniel loves the color blue. The starry part has as much dynamic flow in it as Van Gogh's painting does! This painting is now on one of my favorite mugs and I get to enjoy it all the time. <3

Daniel is showing real progress with composition and brushstrokes. I love his incorporation of black into the painting. It gives it depth and really helps the colors to pop. The little horizontal brushstrokes are great too. and I like the nearly random splash effect in the top right quadrant. This is a piece that I think would grow on me more and more over time. :)

I love seeing how Daniel's artwork is progressing through the year. These two later pieces show a real sense of dynamic flow throughout each piece. He's also using contrasting color values in interesting ways. The collage reminds me of how much his mother enjoyed making collages for years. I like that he breaks out of the box with this one and penetrates the surrounding area at various points. His choice of colors is also very nice (and very Daniel). :)

Daniel has been having a great experience in Art Class this year. He has been telling me about famous artists and paintings and is quite familiar with certain well-known paintings. I'm VERY pleased that he is acquiring this knowledge at age six. His artwork is lovely, and I can see the influence of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" in the way he has used his pen strokes. He is showing signs of being a good artist and I'm so pleased and very proud of him!!
