The student is presented outlines, and left a choice of colors to select for effect. Walter uses the colors to balance the three figures by keeping the blue tones predominantly right and lefthand using mostly lighter tones in the center. He reverses this selection for the eyes of the three. His discipline in confining the colors is noteworthy.
