“There are no mistakes in Art...only new discoveries!" NRM
Art Room Recap:
K-1:
Students learned about color by understanding how to identify and use the primary colors red, yellow, and blue on the color wheel. They watched a video explaining color mixing and a segment that included a science experiment. Students then engaged in their own experiments by mixing the primary colors in order to create the secondary set of green, orange, and purple--(respectively violet). Artwork followed the experiment inspired by “Goldie” the gold fish and the color Red.
2nd:
Students also learned about color and color mixing along with using basic shapes to create a drawing. They listened to the audio book
My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish, a Scholastics Reading Club recommended book for readers in grades 2nd to 4th. The students created artwork inspired by the story’s main character, “Frankie”, this activity also included some Op Art and of course the color Red!
3-6th:
Students were introduced to contour drawing and observed the work of two famous European artists, Henri Matisse, (French) and Pablo Picasso, (Spanish). They created contour drawings of various images. In the still life drawing study, they observed shape, scale, proportion, and space. The study was instrumental in helping students create their own interpretation of the artwork using HB graphite and charcoal pencils.
What’s happening in ART ROOM 105?
K-2:
October has arrived at OPPAA! This month, we will continue to learn and use the Elements of Art in order to create one of a kind artwork. Of course the change to cooler weather will influence some of the work if not inspire students to “Aim Higher” in creating “
beauti-fall” inspired art!! With the fall festivities just around the corner, there might be the arrival of some “
spook-tacular” creations too! We will just have to wait and see what wonderful concoctions come out of student's imaginations.
3-6th
Students will learn about Color Theory (Science & Art History) and Color Mixing (Math) using ratios/proportions that we could not cover last month. They will understand color relationships, temperature, moods (Psychology and Sociology) and Color Harmonies based on the Color Wheel. This will help them to create artwork using an
Analogous and/or
Complementary color palette. Last, but certainly not least, students will study the amazing Post-Impressionist work of Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh (Art History)
