“There are no mistakes in Art...only new discoveries!" NRM
Welcome back to Art Room 105, OPPAA Families!
We are already off to an exciting start to the year in our Art Room 105. Thanks to the help of a wonderful parent who donated some art supplies and recyclables for the students to use this school year. Thank you, Thank you!
We will be posting some of our art projects on
Artsonia this year! This will not only lets us share the Artwork with friends and relatives far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the art room through customized keepsakes. I am always happy to add artwork done at home to a student's gallery, so please don't hesitate to bring any of those special creations to me for publishing. I have already seen independent student artwork from students that I would love to share online. Also, since many of you will be learning about the Artsonia gallery for the first time this year, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or, if you need information on your child's gallery
As we look forward to future events: I wanted to send a quick reminder of some important upcoming dates:
November 14, 2015 OPPAA Fall Festival.
December 4th: K-6th Art Showcase in the Gym. Students and parents can enjoy a fun evening on the school grounds as we are inspired to wander through the
Garden of Wonderland Art showcase in theme with the performance musical.
IMPORTANT: Please return Art Media Release and Artsonia permission forms for public exhibit of your student’s artwork by September 30th!
SUPPLIES NEEDED: Our art room could use some additional supplies including recyclables for this first part of the school year. I'll ask that you please look around at home and in the attic to see if you can find anything we might use in the art room. These items can be gently used and of course new. Your contribution to our art rom will help us out a lot this year. I will be emailing a
Recyclables List to you, but here are a few items:
- Pizza boxes any size (Clean, please)
- Magazines (preferably in color/lots of pictures for collages)
- Marker and /Sharpie Pens of a variety of colors (Fine/Thick Tips)
- Water Color/Drawing/Black & Color Paper
- Color Chalk
- Tempera, Watercolor and Acrylic paint
- Art and Painter's brushes-(clean, please)
- Air Dry Clay (can be homemade!)
I look forward to working with your children and am always impressed and amazed to see how they grow, change and create over the course of the school year. I hope you will always feel welcome in the art room and enjoy all the masterpieces that the 2015-2016 school year will bring!
Respectfully,

What’s happening in ART ROOM 105?
K-6:
A special welcome to all our new families! This month, we will spend time learning about using the Elements of Art. We'll learn about famous artists and be able to identify who created a piece of artwork, just by its style. Throughout the entire year, we'll start to look at artwork from a different perspective and broaden our understanding in art education.
K-2 students will explore the primary colors and color mixing, so you can expect to see a lot of color in our projects. We'll also learn what happens when you mix colors (either because we spilled them on the table, or were doing "arts-periments!"). We keep things simple, have lots of fun, get messy (but come home clean!) and do our best to learn the basics about colors, shapes and how we can find art all around us. Each month, we'll focus on a different color. This month, we'll be focusing on the color RED. Although it seems like a simple subject, you won't believe what we can come up with when we find out which artists like to use red, how many different shades of red you can use, what colors will do when mixed with red and the list goes on! Be "REDDY" because we're going to surprise you with all that we learn this month!
Students 3-6th grade will use line and shape to draw contour drawings. They will add, form value, space, and texture to do a still life study and draw the image from their perspective. They will then learn about Color Theory (Science & Art History) and Color Mixing (Math) using ratios/proportions.
--Please supply an "old shirt" that students can bring to art class to prevent paint and other materials from getting on uniforms. Oversized is best!--
