Expressions Charter Chat: March 2017
from Jenell Novello
The "earth" without "art" is just "eh."- Ned Roram
March is the official
"Youth Art Month".
The Youth Art Month Program emphasizes the value of art education for all children, encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. The YAM theme for 2016-17 is "United Through Art".
I am inviting you all to Harry Potter for Hospitals on March 9, 2016. This event truly aligns with this years Youth Art Month theme as all proceeds benefit children suffering from illnesses in hospitals. The event starts right after school with a movie fundraiser. Taiko drummers will follow with a magical performance in the quad. The Harry Potter Art Exhibit grand opening will take place in the Media Center from 5:30-6:30 where you can marvel at all the creative artwork your child has been working on this past month. In addition to the event, a Donors Choose has been created for Harry Potter for Hospitals. Please share this

with all you know to increase our chances of getting funded.
Thank you for your continued support,

Just for Grade 7
Kindness for Paws!
7th Grade Classes will be partnering up the the Sacramento SPCA to create artwork that will help raise awareness to environmental factors that affect the lives of ALL animals. This is a brand new unit that I believe will tug at student heartstrings resulting in
AMAZING
artwork! This unit will culminate with a hand sewing unit where students will learn basic sewing skills to sew animal beds to be donated to the SPCA. More on that later!
Just for Grade 8
Project Linus!
The 8th Grade Classes will be partnering up with Sacramento Project Linus to knit blankets for babies. A letter explaining this project and material needs was sent home earlier in February and is also linked
here
. The blankets that we knit will likely get donated to evacuation centers in our regional area. Knitting is challenging to learn at first, so if you, or if someone you know is an expert knitter
