Expressions Charter Chat: March 2016
from Jenell Novello and Emily Shane
The "earth" without "art" is just "eh."- Ned Roram
We want to express our genuine thanks and appreciation for all of the art material donations that were turned in during the month of March. The Expressions curriculum has been fully supported by your generosity and we cannot wait to "Spring" back into action next week with our students! In addition, Mrs. Novello wrote two grants that were funded this month, too! NAEF funded the painters tape necessary for the 2016-17 Tape Mural Project and Donors Choose funded a Digital Upgrade Project which included a new ELMO Doc Camera and iPad mounts for the tripods. The materials and equipment that have been funded will have a lasting impact on our students and their artistic process!

Just for Grade 7

WOW! The Middle Ages Art Exhibit turned out amazing and really showcases the creativity and effort of the entire 7th grade class. If you haven't had a chance to view it you can check it out at the next LEAP meeting on Wednesday April 6th, 7pm-8pm in the MPR.
Up next is the Sewing Unit. Needles will be flying in the artoom this month while students learn how to embroider, sew on buttons and learn basic hand stitching techniques. After students master these techniques, they will sew a large scale pillow they can keep OR optional cat bed to be donated to an animal shelter (more on that later). This letter was sent home with students in early March to explain the unit and materials that are needed. The Sewing Unit is one of the most favorite units of the 7th grade class so please contact us if assistance is needed for any sewing materials.

Just for Grade 8

WOW! The Middle Ages Art Exhibit turned out amazing and really showcases the creativity and effort of the entire 8th grade class. If you haven't had a chance to view it you can check it out at the next LEAP meeting on Wednesday April 6th, 7pm-8pm in the MPR.
Up next is the Pop Art Unit. Students will practice the skill of goal setting while they create a 3-d celebratory slice of cake in the style of Wayne Thiebaud. And YES, we will let them eat cake! Monochromatic Self Portraits in the style of Andy Warhol will also be painted setting the stage more complex painting skills necessary for the Street Art Unit and Legacy Project. Speaking of the Legacy Project, the entire class of 2016 will paint large scale murals on the cinder block walls of the Leading Edge Hallway. We have LOTS to look forward to!
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
