WOW, November just blew by!
Although I am very proud of all the artwork that was created this month, mostly, I am humbled by the level of empathy and caring our students demonstrated for others. Our 7th grade students collaborated to produce 50 fleece scarves with hand written messages of encouragement to our US Military Troops. In addition to scarves, students donated some of their Halloween candy which resulted in over 15 pounds of sweet treats collected and shipped off to the US Military.
Our 8th grade students knitted and wove together over 150 five foot strips to produce 11 blankets that will be donated to Project Linus. Students also created 500 modern art pinwheels that will be matched for $2.00 a piece by Students Rebuild that will raise $1000.00 for Healing Classrtooms in Syria. Lastly, every 7th and 8th grade student created a hand crafted placemat for Sacramento's Meals on Wheels. These placemats were distributed with along with a hot Thanksgiving Meal. Our students are AWESOME and have made a huge difference this month!
The Lit and Art Unit is next up for 7th grade and will result in a collaborative art exhibit in the month of January. New projects will be piloted for this unit with opportunities for parent hours. If you are interested in donating materials, please click this link.

I am super excited about the artwork that has been produced within the Perspective Unit so far. This unit was almost completely revised this year and the new projects have been both challenging and engaging. The last project takes place the week we return from Thanksgiving Break and will be the FIRST 7th grade mural of the school year! Students will work in teams to create a Masking Tape Perspective Mural that will be on display for a couple of weeks. Just for Grade 8
Students will begin the Lit and Art Unit when we return from Thankgiving Break. Students will identify similarities between Rap and Poetry and create a Poetic Rap Wire Figurative Sculpture in Expressions while creating an original Rap using Garageband in Technology. Students will recall a scene out of their favorite book to create an Altered Book Sculture. Lastly, students will team up and compete to create Ceiling Tile Book Cover Murals for the Media Center.New projects will be piloted for this unit with opportunities for parent hours.
