“There are no mistakes in Art...only new discoveries!" NRM

As an intro to this month’s newsletter, I have to mention that I am truly amazed at the amount of talent and willingness that I see my Visual Arts OPPAA students’ express when taking on new challenges and assignments. What a delight to be working with such motivated and creative group!  In order to demonstrate their artistic skills, students will have an opportunity to participate in upcoming art contests.  I will be posting contest information in my classroom and in the main building.  Interested students are encouraged to pick up flyers and forms in the art room.  IMPORTANT: To qualify, signed permission form and artwork must be submitted on or before the posted deadline!

Art Room Recap:
K-2: Students used line, shape, patterns, and learned to analyze works of art.
3-6th: Students learned about Color Perception (part II), history of perspective drawing, and analyzed art masterpieces. They applied the principles of one-point perspective to create 3-D drawings of objects on a 2-D plane.

Currently Learning:
K-1: Students will use what they have learned about color, line, shape, and pattern to create artwork inspired by Scholastic’s Club picks.
2nd: Students will explore the Asian continent starting with China. They will learn about the culture, languages, traditions, and art.
3-6th: Students will continue to expand their knowledge using color and one, two, and three- point perspective by creating 3-D drawings and artwork.

Art Focus:
K-1 - Introduce the art of the Gulf Coast with local artists from Alabama and Louisiana.
3-6 - Learn about Art Careers and the competitive business of Graphic Design. Understand the design principles behind logo creation, signs, and wall murals.
