Art Room Happenings
from Mrs. Teri Clark
Well, we have finished the first six weeks!  What a fabulous start we have had!
So many things have been happening in the art room!
All grade levels have been hard at work creating pieces for the Brazos Valley Fair and Rodeo!
I am sending 6 pieces to compete.  Another 15 pieces will be on display at the administration building for BISD in downtown Bryan.

I have started something new with all of my classes this year and I am super excited about how it is all going.  I have been participating with art teachers across the state of Texas in a book study about the Growth Mindset concepts since last spring.  It was time to put into practice everything that I was learning.
Every class starts with a VERY short 3-5 minute lesson on GROWTH MINDSET!  I would love for you to have conversations with your kiddos about what this is!
Basically it is the belief that you can learn anything, but you have to have the right mindset!
Our first lessons have focused on what the words mean and that our brain is a muscle and has to be worked out!  I am attaching the videos we have done so far so that you can view them at home and have conversations with your kiddos.
Starting this next week we will begin learning strategies for what we can do to change our mindset.  We will focus the next two weeks on what do we do when we make a mistake.  Since we ALL make mistakes, how should we handle it??  (I am not sharing those videos yet, as I want the kids to have seen them first, before you share with them at home!)  Please, if you have any questions about the growth mindset, let me know!

Here is out video about our brain...it is from class DOJO...a behavior management program that many of our classes use.

Here is our launch song (what I send them off with at the end of our classtime...yes it is sesame street...even our big kids love this...they sing it out!)

Just for Kindergarten

Kindergarten just finished up with their lines and creating a "dot" using all types of lines.  I am hoping to get these uploaded into their portfolio this week and next!
Here is the story and song we shared!  Feel free to enjoy watching with your kiddos!

We will start our second six weeks lessons with color very soon!  We will be learning about the primary colors red, yellow, and blue.

Just for Grade 1

First graders worked with lines and created a dot that will be magical!  They made their dot with a white oil pastel on white paper.  They will paint over it this next week!  They will be beautiful, creating a very nice oil resist!  These are always a big hit because of the magic that appears when they paint!

Just for Grade 2

Second graders have been working hard on their boot design and painting!  They are all so creative and colorful!
They also created a still life using my longhorn skull.  The skull was the focal point in the center.  They chose cotton, boots, flowers, and bones to create a composition.  They then photographed it with the ipad.  I had them all processed this weekend in 5X7 size!  They are all so different and creative!

Just for Grade 3

Third graders are still hard at work on their first art pieces.  They are creating a Western Landscape and filling it with a variety of line designs.  When finished they begin painting it with water color paint.  About half of them have started painting, but no one is finished.  They are working so hard and are so focused and taking their time and giving their best work!

Just for Grade 4

Fourth graders have been working on cactus landscapes.  They worked their landscape in pencil then had to erase all of their pencil lines.  This posed to be a little challenging for some.  They then went over the very faint pencil lines with elmers glue.  They then used a very special paint...liquid watercolors!  These are VERY intense paints that create amazing colors!  The final step is tracing all glue lines inside and out with a fine line sharpie!
I will teach them this week how to upload their own work to artsonia!  They will title their pieces and write artist statements to go with thier pieces!  So be on the lookout for them to show up in their gallery!
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
