October MMS Art Room Newsletter
from Ms. Socha
Hello Parents!  If you are reading this you have granted permission for your child to be a member of Artsonia online student art gallery.  I am excited for this online opportunity to showcase the artwork of my students.  In just under 3 weeks we have had over 1000 visitors to our site and a number of positive comments have been left for students about their work.  If you have not had time to activate or set up an account for yourself please search your email or spam for an activation email from Artsonia.  I am also able to assist you in setting up your parent account.  As a parent you are able to approve comments that others leave for your child about their art.  You also have the ability to approve members of their fan club and receive feedback that I leave regarding current projects or lessons.  Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!  My classroom number is 715 735-1519 and email is bsocha@marinette.k12.wi.us.
Thank you - Ms. Socha

Art Club is in full swing for this year!  We have already have been having a lot of fun.  Art club schedules can be found outside the artroom door for students to pick up.  A signed parent permission slip is all that is needed to attend.  If your child has questions about art club they can stop in and see me!

Art to Remember order forms have gone home for 5th/6th grade students.  Orders are due by this Friday, October 23rd either online or returned to school.  Art to Remember is a separate program from Artsonia and a letter accompanying the order form will explain those details for you.

Just for Grade 5

5th grade students are currently in their 1st Trimester in art and are with me until the first week of December before transitioning to music class.  We are just finishing up learning about our second Impressionist artist Edgar Degas.  Students created a pastel of a horse in motion to model after Degas.  This week we will be moving on to our second clay project working with slab construction and making owl wall hangings focusing on texture and craftsmanship skills in clay.

Just for Grade 6

6th grade students are currently in their 1st Trimester in art and are with me until the first week of December before transitioning to music class.  Students have just finished their underwater themed dioramas in clay focusing on pinch construction.  Students wrote an artist statement to accompany their work.  Many of these are posted on our MMS art page on Artsonia.  Today we just started our paper mache project continuing our unit in sculpture.  Look for many crazy and creative bird sculptures to show up soon!

Just for Grade 7

7th grade students have art every other day all year long.  Students are currently finishing up their textile weaving project where they needed to include an alternative item.  We have just started uploading photos of their work on our Artsonia page.  Artist statements about their work will be coming soon!

Just for Grade 8

8th grade students have art every other day all year long.  Students have finised up their very lengthy assemblage art projects and artist statements will be posting soon on Artsonia.  We are just beginning a 3 project series on Optical Illusion art.  Students will be learing how to work with line, value, color and shape to create 3-D looking artwork on a 2-D surface.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
