Lake Prairie Art News, Nov 12th
from Ms. Sayers, Lake Prairie's Art Teacher

WOW!! What an amazing 3 weeks it has been since we joined Artsonia!!!

There has been almost 500 pieces of artwork posted, more than 170 fans, 35 fan comments, 22 artist statements, and over 1600 views of our Artsonia Gallery.  Thank you all for your support.

If you have signed the permission form, you will get an email from Artsonia asking you to create your parent account.  When you create this account, you will receive emails when your artist has new work posted, you will be able to add and approve fans to your child's guestbook, approve fan comments, and it allows your child to write artist statements about their work. This registration process also makes it possible for your child to win virtual ribbons on their Artsonia gallery and be eligible for the "Hall of Fame" - when they have received 3 of the ribbons. None of this is possible unless you register as a parent or confirm registration.

November already?!?!?
from Ms. Sayers
It is hard to believe that 2012 is almost over! We have been very busy in the Elementary Art Room!

Just for Kindergarten

Students have learned about the artist Claude Monet and viewed his work of beautiful watergardens.  Students then used printmaking techniques to make lilly pads under their own bridge.

Just for Grade 1

First grade is completing their "Spooky Landscapes".  We talked about how a landscape is a picture of the land.  It can have a city, mountains, parks, houses, etc in it.  Students learned about how to use and care for a paintbrush and then they painted the background.  Using paint bellows they made trees by putting black paint on the paper and blowing it around.  Finally, we added our city to the front of the picture.

Just for Grade 2

Students have been making Fantastic Felines (Cats) or Cool Canines (Dogs) that either represent their family or friends.  We talked about overlapping, depth, and patterns.  Check out your favorite artists work in our gallery and comment on their work.

Just for Grade 3

Third grade students are finishing up their Origami bunnies.  Students learned that Origami is the art of paperfolding and that it is part of the Japanese culture.  It is something that is done by everyone, not just children; it is part of their etiquette or manners.
We will be starting a Winter Close-Up like Andy Warhol did.  There will be an iPad connection when students photograph their work and bring the photgram into an app to make it look abstract.

Just for Grade 4

Students have been working on a color wheel so that they will be able to complete the next project "Wish for the World"  which is inspired by the work of Robert Love.  Students recognized some of his work because they learned about Pop Art in Social Studies.

Just for Grade 5

Artists are finishing up their Zentangled Pumpkins.  Students learned that zentangles were doodles or patterns that are all tangled up and by doing this you have a moment of Zen or relaxation.  We also talked about patterns, overlapping, and depth.
I think these pieces are just amazing!  Be sure to stop by the gallery to see the work.
Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Our dream is that every young artist will have an online art gallery, preserving their masterpieces in a digital portfolio!
